Le Quatuor des Lumières

Four singular and accomplished compositions, often virtuoso, featuring flute, violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord, sometimes accomplices, sometimes adversaries, often confidants, each protagonist taking us back to our own sensitive experiences. Guillemain's quartet, or conversation galante et amusante, evokes Watteau's paintings, plunging us into an idealised nature, the scene of galant festivities. Telemann's quartet reveals the composer's genius through the diversity of the characters that follow one another and the perfect balance achieved between the 4 instrumentalists; it heralds the great classical quartets of Haydn and Mozart. As for Rameau's Pièces de clavecin en concert, they are veritable "mini-dramas" designed to touch the listener's sensibilities. A succession of portraits and dances painted by a miniature orchestra, they reflect the spirit that animated the intellectual life of the eighteenth century.
