Dragons have been around in Europe, Asia and pre-Columbian Mesoamerica since the earliest civilisations. A malevolent, deceitful spirit, protector of treasure, dangerous to people, symbol of evil and associated with the underworld, it is often the incarnation of absolute evil. We'll take a look at the history of the dragon myth, punctuated by classical and Scandinavian mythological tales, and analyse the evolution of its appearance, ending with a brief foray into pop-culture.
