  • Housed in a former school built in 1882 and a historic monument since 1996, this primary school museum (Musée de France) features two fully reconstructed classrooms, one circa 1900 and the other 1960. They tell the story of the development of primary education, from the Jules Ferry laws to the present day.

    Room with two temporary exhibitions on the First World War with the national label: "Quand tu seras soldat! 1870/1914 period" as part of the "Mômes du Centenaire" and "Défendre la Patrie! 1914/1918 period" as part of the "Instits du Centenaire".
    Other highlights include
    - two life stories (photos, personal accounts, war diaries and correspondence) for schoolchildren and children: Antoine Chaînard, a schoolboy from the Saône-et-Loire school battalions in 1890, who died at Verdun in 1915, and Paul Constant Moutardier, a schoolboy from Montceau-les-Mines, who graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Mâcon, was a teacher in Montceau, was mobilised in 1915 and died in Compiègne in 1918.
    - A historical 1914/1918 classroom (display of schoolboy and schoolgirl costumes, period teacher, 1917 posters and blackboards).
    - A room with the memorial to the 138 teachers from Saône-et-Loire who died for France in 14/18: individual military records, photos of the École Normale graduating classes during the war, chronicles written by the survivors in 1963 of their war years.
    - Testimonies and photos of the last soldiers from the coalfield, collected in 1977 by pupils in a CM2 class.
    - A classroom for pen-and-ink activities for children, schoolchildren and adults.
