As part of the celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the Académie François Bourdon and the 10th anniversary of the Pavillon de l'Industrie, the Académie is presenting a temporary exhibition on the engineer François Bourdon.

Born in Seurre in 1797, François Bourdon worked as a mechanic in Mâcon, Le Creusot, New York, Liverpool and Marseille.
Although he was responsible for the sledgehammer, the emblem of the town of Le Creusot, his research and achievements went far beyond the field of metallurgy, particularly in the development of steam-powered ship propulsion.
Through the quality of his work, which revealed both invention and innovation, he had a profound impact on the mechanical engineering sector at the time of the first Industrial Revolution.
