Pleasure boating

By boat, along the Canal du Centre

Whether you’re at the helm or comfortably seated on the deck of your pleasure boat, take time to admire the gentle landscapes of Burgundy.

One of Burgundy's canals

World-famous for its vineyards, Burgundy is perhaps just as famous for its waterways. The Canal de Bourgogne, the Canal du Nivernais and the Canal du Centre, which criss-cross the entire region, offer a wealth of opportunities to discover the fascinating history of our region. Crossing southern Burgundy, i.e. the entire Saône-et-Loire department, from south-west to north-east, the Canal du Centre offers a variety of landscapes and atmospheres. Whether at the helm of their own boat or on a rental basis, yachtsmen and yachtswomen will appreciate the gentle Burgundian way of life as they navigate and admire the landscape.

A work of art inherited from the Age of Enlightenment, the Canal du Centre is a veritable heritage site in itself, lined with heritage sites to visit: architectural treasures, industrial heritage… There are so many possible stops along the way. So, if you’re in the mood for an off-the-beaten-track holiday, and want to take time out from the hustle and bustle of modern life, come and explore our region along the water. You’ll be able to observe nature up close, from the deck of your boat. On the banks, herons come to fish and peaceful Charolais cows graze in the meadows… You’ll leave with memories that will fill your head, and only one desire: to come back.

Harbours and river stops

Boaters on the Canal du Centre wishing to stop off in the Creusot Montceau area have several options for parking their boats. Whether in town or in the countryside, find out more about our different stopping places below.

A modern marina

Completely renovated, the Montceau-les-Mines marina is a modern facility with 37 berths. Open all year round, yachtsmen benefit from a wide range of services (electrical and drinking water connections, waste water emptying, showers and toilets with secure access…). Located right in the center of town, the marina offers direct access to the shops, restaurants and services available in town. The marina can also accommodate boats for wintering or long-term storage.

Short-stay stops

For shorter stays or moorings requiring less service, take advantage of the Blanzy, Génelard and Saint-Julien-sur-Dheune rest areas. Each is equipped with electricity and drinking water connections, although it is not possible to empty waste water. For basic supplies (bread, groceries, etc.), there are easily accessible shops in Blanzy and Génelard. For an inn or restaurant, you’ll find several addresses in Blanzy and Saint-Julien.
